Reach Out Before You Reach In
The most memorable event that can happen to someone coming into an unknown place for the first time is the welcome they receive. Whether it be a touch, a smile or the sound of a voice saying “welcome”, the feeling of being included immediately is indelibly etched in their memory.
The most important part of the following scenario is YOU!!!
We, at St. Benedict’s have such an opportunity (and responsibility) to welcome each visitor!
...by greeting them as they park their car, if you happen to park nearby
...by extending your hand as they enter, if you all come to the door at the same time
...by inviting them to sign our guest book and to write their name on a tag and wear it!
...by introducing them to an usher who will link them with a parishioner to sit with and shepherd through our service; guide them in the Passing of the Peace and in receiving communion.
AND introduce them to our clergy when the service has ended….Very Important!!
THEN take them into the Parish Hall to share a coffee with them.
IT is in the Parish Hall that EACH ONE OF US should WELCOME THESE VISITORS.
St. Benedict of Nursia encouraged such a welcome throughout his lifetime and we, here at St. Benedict’s in Lacey, must always try to do the same thing. Amen.
