Whats Up with the Announcement Time

If you’ve been in church recently (we hope you have!) you will have noticed that at the 10 a.m. service there is no longer a time for oral announcements made by congregation members at the end of the service. Instead, the oral announcements are made at the beginning of the coffee hour and they are made only by the Vicar or a Bishop’s Committee member. Have you wondered why the change in place and the process?

The change in location to the parish hall was made because to “plug” announcements in at any point in the worship service feels disruptive to our worship experience. The change was made to have only Georgi or a Bishop’s Committee member make the oral announcements in an effort to keep it to a brief time.

So the question becomes, “How do I get an announcement made?” The very best way to make sure your announcement reaches the most people is to plan ahead and have it in written form and into the church office by noon on the Wednesday before the Sunday(s) you wish to have it publicized. This way the announcement reaches everyone who is in church on Sunday and it will be on the web page. If something comes up that needs to be announced and you have missed the deadline for the written announcements, you need to inform the Bishop’s Committee member who is greeting people along with the Vicar at the close of the service as they leave the sanctuary. Please have your request written down and give it to the Bishop’s Committee member or the Vicar who will then make the announcement in the parish hall. If you have questions or suggestions, please talk to any member of the Bishop’s Committee or the Vicar.
