What is New With the Community Dinners

Your Community Dinners are a great success. We are reaching more and more people and are providing food to hungry people through our food bank. We need folks who are willing and called to take on leadership positions for these ministries. As a congregation, we have felt called to ministries of hospitality and feeding. Here is how you can help:
  •  Lead cooks need to have a food handler’s card. Food handler cards can be obtained through the Thurston County Health Department. By attending a short class, passing a multiple choice test and paying a ten dollar fee, you can be issued a card. Classes are given every Tuesday at 3:20 and again at 5:20, every Thursday at 8:20 (AM) and the third Saturday of every month at 10 AM and are held in room 152 of Building One at the Thurston County Courthouse. You only have to attend class at one of the times offered. More information can be obtained by calling 754-3355 extension 7386.
  • We always need people who are willing to drive the van to pick up people for the dinners. A four hour class by Intercity Transit is required.
  • People who help serve, visit with guests and clean up after the dinners are needed.
  • We have also provided dinners to the transitional housing and homeless shelter at 604 Devoe Street, Drexel House. We want to continue to offer regular dinners at Drexel House but we need people to help make the dinners.
The Community Dinner is held once a month, on the fourth Saturday. Sign up sheets for volunteers are located on the back table in the hallway. What part of this ministry might be yours? Please continue to pray for these ministries. For more information, contact Nancy Zabel, Peggy Carmichael or Deacon Zula.
