St. Benedict Feeding Ministry

St. Benedict’s Feeding Ministry has grown to the point where it needs organization and structure to ensure its growth and longevity. I have been blessed with the appointment of Administrator of the Feeding Ministry which includes our Community Dinners and Drexel House Dinners.

The position requires creation, implementation and documentation of systems and processes. This position will oversee the creation of processes to recruit, train and maintain an adequate volunteer base and to create avenues for publicity and communication. In addition, processes for ongoing monitoring and documentation will be established to meet the long-term goal of applying for appropriate grants.

Organizational Steps for 2008 include:

  • Create a directory of Community Dinner and Drexel House volunteers. This identifies areas that need more volunteers and aids in communication.
  • Receive training on security and safety from Lacey Police officer.
  • Receive training for van drivers.
  • Receive training to obtain Food Handler cards.
  • Create job descriptions for each Community Dinner and Drexel House volunteer position. This enables the volunteers to know what is expected of them and makes it easier to train new volunteers.
  • Create a log book to store the statistics for each dinner. These statistics are required by the Food Bank and will also aid in grant requests.
  • Create a recipe book which will assist volunteers in making dinners for large groups of people.
  • The Food Bank and “Other Bank” that includes personal items will be expanded.
  • Collaboration will be made with other churches and community members so the Feeding Ministry can expand to include weekly dinners and supply more resources for people in need.
  • We will apply for grants to assist in the expansion and support of the Feeding Ministry.

Every member of St. Benedict’s will be given the opportunity to be involved in the Feeding Ministry. There are many ways to be involved in St. Benedict’s Feeding Ministry whether you come to the actual dinner or contribute from home.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you are interested in supporting our Feeding Ministry and want to be involved in some way.

Blessings,

Sue Andersen
