Saint Benedict

Order of St. Luke

October 18th is marked as the Feast of Saint Luke, the Physician. Traditionally on that day the church recognizes the gifts of physicians, dentists, nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, veterinary technicians, dental technicians and all others who are engaged in the healing arts and sciences. We recognize their gifts as God given and praise God for these people whose hands, hearts and minds bring God’s gifts of health and healing to us. Today, please say a prayer of thanksgiving for all health care professionals who tough your life.

At St. Benedict, we have a vigorous ministry of healing prayer through the Daughters of the King and our  Parish prayer list. We remember all who have asked for prayer. We also offer prayers for healing each Sunday during the time of the Eucharist. This confidential quiet time of prayer is offered to all. All are welcome to come to the prayer station after receiving Holy Communion. There are many kinds of healing and when we invite the Holy Spirit to intervene in out lives, a change occurs. I believe that prayer is always answered. We may not immediately recognize the action of prayer, but it is there. We may pray for physical healing. Physical healing may or may not happen, but God’s positive action will always happen.

For those who feel called to further explore the healing ministry within themselves, you may be interested in attending the Annual Order of Saint Luke National Conference, July 9th through the 12th in Boise, Idaho. You may obtain more information about healing conference at www.orderofstluke.org.
