The Hands of Christ in the heart of Lacey
My Name is Lisa Metzler. I am 38 years old and a mom to Claire and Neal. I am married to David and we have worked very hard in the last year to be mentors to Whitney Morrell, who moved into our house last March. I am also a physical therapist and share an office with Beth Ilem, our music director. In fact, Beth is the person who originally brought me to St. Benedicts. It's funny that it wasn't until I had been singing in the choir for a few weeks that I noticed John and Anne Metzler, my mother and father in law, in the congregation!
In reading the letter to invite people to be members of the bishop's committee, I thought:hmm... leader of the church, strong faith foundation, I'm not sure that I should be in the group. I consider myself to be quite a doubting Thomas when it comes to faith. I just do my best and keep pressing ahead. I try to remember that when we go out to do the work that God has given us to do, that means work! Darn. I thought it was going to be easy. Well, maybe in my next life...Wait! that's Buddhist isn't it?
As a member of the bishop's committee, I have the support of a very strong and wonderful group of people. I will be sorry to see Amber leaving since I am the bishop's committee liason for children's formation. This means that we will need to do some shifting and dreaming about what children's church is going to be this year.
I stole a wonderful idea from Saint's Suppers and try to have family fellowship meals every month or two so that I can get to know other parishoners (with or without children) without anyone worring about what they (the children) might be getting into. We had family dinners last summer at our house as well as others'. We took a break from October to December to honor the business of the holidays. The most recent one was in the parish hall. I look forward to getting to know more of you as the year goes forward.
