Saint Benedict

Bob Wilson Bio

I was born in Kansas and grew up in Colorado. I graduated from the University of Colorado in 1961. After graduation I accepted a commission in the United States Navy and served 6 years on active duty and 16 years in the Navy Reserve retiring as a Commander. I then worked for the Department of Defense in many locations ( Picatinny Arsenal New Jersey, Dugway Proving Ground Utah, Berlin and Stuttgart Germany and Fort Lewis Washington to name a few). I finished my career as a Special Agent working for the Federal Aviation Administration as a specialist in Hazardous Materials and Cargo Security. I also have a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology.

I married Kathy Burns Wilson in 1962.  In July we celebrated our 45th Anniversary.  We have two wonderful sons, Kevin and Mike, who grew up in St. Benedicts. Kevin is married to Shauna and they live in Ann Arbor. Michigan.  Mike is married to Jodi and they live in Bellevue with their children Amelia and Callum.

Our family moved from Germany to the Lacey area in 1978.  We attended St. John’s, Olympia, where Kathy and I were usher coordinators and Sunday school teachers.  Kathy was also the Church secretary for several years.  We were part of the original group that helped start St. Benedicts.

It was my honor to be chosen as St Benedicts first Vicar’s Warden.  I also served as the Youth Group Leader, Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Choir member.  I represented St. Benedicts at the Associated Ministries and served on the outreach committee.  Kathy and I also served as delegates to convention.  I was a member of the Bishop’s Committee on three different occasions and served as Vicar’s Warden three times.

Kathy and I moved to Gig Harbor in 1993.  While in Gig Harbor we attended St John’s Episcopal Church.  It was my pleasure to serve on the vestry for three terms.  I also served as the Senior Warden during that time.  Kathy and I moved back to the Lacey area in March of 2006. Coming back to St. Benedicts was like returning home.  We love this church and all the loving and caring people that make it such a special place.
