The Hands of Christ in the heart of Lacey
The Vicars Voice
Using words to prech the Gospel and to be a church is very tricky buiness.
Have you ever played tha children's game, "Telephone"? That's the game where one child picks a phrase like, "The rain in Spain falls maunly on the plain" or some other silly phrase and then whispers it into the ear of the next child and that child whispers it into the next etc...until all the children have had a chance to cature the whispered phase and pass it along. Family dinners will be known as Family Fun Night from here on out. They will still be generally held at David and Lisa Metzler's home on the second Sunday of each month and will start at 6 pm. This is an opportunity to have quality time with your family and our church family. We share food, play games and visit. Everything is flexible. It is a great opportunity to get the opportunity to play that 6 person game that your family isn't quite big enough to do regularly or pogo stick, or re-experience the joy of rope games. Nothing is too goofy! For more details contact Lisa or David Metzler: (360) 412-0868. Or, you can just show up on the second Sunday. Usually we do not gather if the second Sunday is a holiday (like Mother's Day last month.) Don’t forget that this month Family Fun Night is the ‘Getting to Know You’ Potluck at St. Benedict on the 8th @ 4:30! See you there!
Committee members for 2008-2009 are Bob Carmichael, Hal Hodgson, Anne Metzler, Lucy Reuter and Joan Vance. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship from the fund please contact the church office at 456-2240.
The Community Dinner group is excited to announce the expansion of the Community Dinners! Starting June 13th, there will be a community dinner held on the second Friday of every month! The food bank will open at 5:00 p.m. with dinner being served at 5:30 and run until 7:00 p.m. This is a fabulous opportunity to help serve our community and share in the abundant gifts that God has given us. We are also looking for other churches and faith based organizations to volunteer time to help with this new expansion. If you know of anyone, or are someone, who might be interested, please contact Sue Andersen today! We all know that many hands make light work, imagine what the many hands of God can do!
In April our pledging dollars were down. We fell short by about $2,000 of our monthly pledge budgeted amount. For the year we are down about $7,500 or about .095 %. If we can get on track in the upcoming months, we will make up this minor shortfall with no problem. As of now, we should be able to fund all the churches programs that we set out to do in our annual meeting.
For expenses, we are staying within the amount budgeted: We budgeted $85,527 and we have only spent $77,059 or about 90%.
Additionally the Bishop's Committee has approved the amendment to the budget so we can hire a new Choir Director. This means that we will see additional dollars needed or an increase in May.
The Finance committee is watching the trends of the income and expenses and will make needed recommendations to the Bishop's Committee.
Does your Christianity inform how you communicate? It’s a very interesting question. Our new Bishop, Greg Rickel, from his first day here communicated to the diocese a part of his agreement and much of it goes to how we communicate. Here are Greg’s ten rules for respect. They are so good, that both Lacey and I have decided to adopt these as well: Full Article 10 Rules for Respect (Reprisal from October Ben.)
I was born in Detroit, MI on August 7, 1980. I was raised by my grandparents in southern Michigan/northern Indiana. The church we attended was First Baptist Church, a large “Regular” Baptist church in Elkhart, IN. My grandparents believed it important that we go to church, so, without fail, we attended all three weekly services: Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday prayer meeting. I also attended a small Baptist school from kindergarten through graduation. I was drawn to God and spirituality early in life and as I grew up became more and more involved in the church, in its ministry, and in growing in my relationship with God. Full Article
Recently I was asked: “When are you going on to be a priest?” The question comes out of the confusion between those whom the Church refers to as “transitional deacons” and those referred to as “vocational deacons”. The question reflects a general lack of understanding about what deacons do. I hope to shed some light on this for you. More
