Benedictions for July

Vicars Voice

Extra Grace Required

The Bishop’s Committee and I have made a pact this year—we are reading a book together called, Beyond Business as Usual: Leadership Development. After praying together, the Bishop’s Committee ( governing board for our Church) discusses a chapter or two from this book together for the first half hour of our meeting. Reading together has proven to be a wonderful way for us to talk about our faith and the bigger picture of our community. Full Article

Alkins Scholarship Fund

The David Alkins Educational Scholarship Fund’s purpose is to provide funds to members of St. Benedict’s, clergy, and/or lay persons for experiences which contribute to the educational and/or spiritual growth of individuals, and must, in turn, be of benefit to the St. Benedict’s community as a whole. The committee’s goals continue to include increasing the fund and encouraging church members to take advantage of this opportunity to further the spiritual growth of our church community.

Committee members for 2008-2009 are Bob Carmichael, Hal Hodgson, Anne Metzler, Lucy Reuter and Joan Vance. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship from the fund please contact the church office at 456-2240.

Come have fun with your church family!

Family dinners will be known as Family Fun Night from here on out. They will still be generally held at David and Lisa Metzler's home on the second Sunday of each month and will start at 6 pm. This is an opportunity to have quality time with your family and our church family. We share food, play games and visit. Everything is flexible. It is a great opportunity to get the opportunity to play that 6 person game that your family isn't quite big enough to do regularly or pogo stick, or re-experience the joy of rope games. Nothing is too goofy! For more details contact Lisa or David Metzler: (360) 412-0868. Or, you can just show up on the second Sunday. Usually we do not gather if the second Sunday is a holiday (like Mother's Day in May.)

Brother Michael

For nearly two generations of kids, Brother Michael of the Order of the Holy Cross was a beloved figure at the program near Olympia which was named Camp Michael in his honor.

After enduring increasing health problems, Brother Michael Stonebraker, OHC, 78, died June 10 in a hospital near the storybook town of Rhinebeck, NY, where he had lived in a retirement home the past several years.More

The Deacons Voice by The Rev. Becky Scott

The daily news tells of world-wide disease, poverty, sickness and hunger that seem unending. Greed and the worship of power are rampant. How can we possibly make a difference? Where is God in all this?

God is in it all, we just need to recognize it; and recognize that we are in it as well. We are Jesus’ hands and feet; we are the disciples sent out now to cure illness and call out demons. It’s part of our Baptismal Covenant. Full Article
